Sustainable Design

Environmental Synopsis

The built environment has a profound impact on our natural environment, economy, health and productivity.

In the United States alone, buildings account for :

•72% of electricity consumption

•39% of energy use

•38% of all carbon dioxide emissions

•40% of raw materials output

•30% of waste output

•14% of potable water consumption

Changing the Built Environment

Our design teams at Beecher Walker recognize our responsibility to design buildings that are conscious of the natural environments in which they are built, and responsive to the various climatic influences. However, sustainability does not always have to mean increased project cost. It involves the way the project and its systems are planned, to reduce the building’s impact on nature and save clients on operating costs over the life of the project.

Environmental Benefits:

•Enhance and protect ecosystems and biodiversity

•Improve air and water quality

•Reduce solid waste
